Walmart has acquired the online women’s fashion retailer ModCloth, adding another specialty eCommerce player to its digital retail organization. ModCloth sells fashion, shoes, handbags, and accessories targeted toward 18-35-year-old women. The retailer is based in San Francisco, with other offices in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles; the retailer also runs one store in Austin, Texas. ModCloth will continue to operate as a separate and complementary brand to Walmart’s other eCommerce sites, and will maintain all of its offices as it joins Walmart’s U.S. eCommerce retail organization.

ModCloth, which was founded in 2002 in Pittsburgh, has become known for its promotion of size diversity, lifestyle inclusiveness, and body positivity. The retailer carries independent designers, national brands, and ModCloth-designed private label items.
