The UK’s Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) has agreed to delay for a further eight weeks its decision on whether to permit the proposed merger between supermarket giants Sainsbury’s and Walmart’s Asda. This means its provisional findings will now likely emerge sometime this month, with a final report in early March.

In a statement, the CMA more time was required to weigh the deal due to the "scope and complexity" of the takeover and a need to consider responses from the two main parties and a wealth of other submissions by third parties.
