X5 Retail Group has announced the opening of its first next-gen Perekrestok supermarket. Based on customer feedback and requirements, the retailer has implemented "emotional" design elements, meeting demand for fresh products and ready-to-eat meals. Half of the selling space, i.e., 2,000 square metres, has been allocated to the fresh assortment, including fruit & vegetables, a daily cheese offering, a special area for dressed meat storage, a separate counter for fresh fish, meat, salad bar, bakery and café. The new store features two routes for the shopper: one shorter for quick trips and the other longer for more considered shopping. The shorter path leads to the fresh produce zone, salad bar, ready-to-eat meals section, café and bakery. The other path takes customers through the outer areas of the store containing fish, meat, dairy, grocery, beverages and associated goods.
