UK grocer Morrisons is to lay off 3,000 store managers in a major shake-up of its operations. The roles will be replaced by 7,000 new hourly-paid roles across its 500 stores in shopper-facing roles like service counters. The move is motivated by a need to cut costs, meaning many of the net 4,000 new roles will likely be on a part-time basis, reducing the overall staffing costs. Morrisons said those affected by the changes would be invited to move to new roles within the organisation, although they should expect pay rates to match shop floor level.
